X Chicago Lights Up University Village

Our Chicago team recently got their hands dirty in the field (as we say when trying to sound construction-y) to introduce X Chicago to the University Village to the neighborhood.
Tony sought design inspiration from James Turrell and Dan Flavin to improve on the glowing L (see below) we did for Lx a few years back. He wanted to play with color and scale to create the illusion of a massive U floating between floor slabs alongside one of the nation’s busiest freeways. Plus, he really likes pink.
The plan (below) called for pink LED christmas lights, 6×6 pieces of lumber, and corrugated plastic sheets to create a 16ft high, 14ft wide U spanning the 5th and 6th floors (where there will eventually be a fire pit terrace and BYOB social lounge).
Now you can see it in all its glory from highway I-90/94 (“The Dan Ryan”) between the 18th Street exit and the Roosevelt Road exit.
